Group Halloween costumes for 8 People
Eight is a party rather than a group, so it needs a theme somebody can say in three words at the door. Each of these is one idea with eight roles, and a rail holds up to twelve so the whole lot fits on one. Each grouping below says what every person wears and roughly how long the slowest costume takes, so you can pick one and start tonight rather than argue about it for a week.

The full haunted house
Every classic monster, one each, no repeats and no explaining. The easiest eight to fill and the easiest to extend if a ninth person appears.

How to agree on one without a week of messages
Pick the grouping first and the costumes second. A group that decides "we are doing the haunted house" in one message gets there; a group that asks 8 people what they want to be does not. Name a rail on The Costume Rack, send the link to the group chat, and each person claims a costume from the grouping you picked — everyone sees who has taken what, so two of you only match on purpose.
What to do if someone drops out
Every grouping here survives losing one person, because none of them depends on a complete set to make sense. A group of 8 that becomes 7 is just the 7 version of the same idea. That is the practical reason to avoid themes that need an exact headcount.
