How to make a mummy costume
The mummy is made from strips of white cloth wrapped over light clothes. It is cheap, it is spooky, and it gets a laugh when a strip starts to trail.
What you need
- White gauze or strips torn from an old sheet
- White or light grey clothes underneath
- Safety pins
- Tea bags to stain the strips
- Grey shadow around the eyes
- White sneakers
How to put it together
- Stain the strips in tea and let them dry.
- Grey shadow around the eyes.
- Wrap the strips over your clothes, pinning as you go, with one loose end trailing.

An old white sheet torn into strips, and safety pins.
No makeup?
The wrapping is the whole costume; the face can stay bare.
For a group or a couple
A tomb: mummies in any number, or a mummy with a ghost and a skeleton for a haunted group.
